NEW DEMOCRAT CAMPAIGN TO SAVE BC’S WILD SALMON LAUNCHES INTO WARP SPEED

Fin Donnelly & William Shatner Team Up Again to Save BC Wild Salmon

New Westminster – Today, New Democrat MP Fin Donnelly (New Westminster–Coquitlam & Port Moody) launched a national postcard campaign in support of his Private Member's Bill C-518, to move west coast salmon farms to closed containment.

First to sign on was Canadian film and television icon William Shatner who prepared a special video message for the campaign launch. "Please join me in saving the salmon by signing the 'Save the Salmon' postcards and send(ing) it to your representative," pleaded Shatner.

Shatner first spoke out on the issue last year in a letter to the Prime Minister after the collapse of the Fraser River sockeye salmon. In his video message today, Shatner noted, "It's fixable. We can turn it around (and) Fin Donnelly’s Bill C-518 is one of the answers."

"Wild salmon are integral to British Columbia's environment, economy and culture," said Donnelly. "I don’t want Pacific salmon to go the way of the Atlantic cod."

Donnelly was joined via phone by award-winning salmon activist Alexandra Morton, behavioural ecologist Dr. Larry Dill, and Chief Bob Chamberlin of the Ah-Kwa-Mish First Nation.

"Not everyone can travel to Ottawa to raise this issue in the House of Commons, but you can send a postcard or sign online to show your support for wild salmon. We must do everything we can before it's too late," said Donnelly.
