NEW WESTMINSTER – Today, New Democrats came out in the hundreds to elect Coquitlam city councilor Fin Donnelly as their candidate in the New Westminster–Coquitlam federal by-election. The seat was held by New Democrat Dawn Black and became vacant when Black resigned to serve as a provincial MLA.
“I’m grateful for the trust that New Westminster, Coquitlam and Port Moody families have placed in me,” said Donnelly after the nomination win. “This is our chance to send Stephen Harper a message he can’t ignore over in Ottawa.”
A three-term elected city councilor, Donnelly is known for his no nonsense style of leadership and for being a strong, effective voice for his community.
“This recession has everyday families in our community worried and they know they just can’t trust Stephen Harper to put them first,” said Donnelly. “I’ve grown up here. My friends and family live here. And I won’t let you down.”
Donnelly is also the Executive Director of the Rivershed Society of British Columbia, a charitable organization dedicated to protecting the health and biodiversity of the Fraser River.
“Dawn Black always looked out for families like yours and mine. I’m proud to follow in her footsteps.”
