CAMPAIGN TO SAVE WILD SALMON TURNS UP THE HEAT WITH SUPPORT FROM RENOWNED LOCAL CHEF

Thu 5 Aug 2010

Executive Chef Robert Clark signs onto campaign

VANCOUVER – As New Democrat MP Fin Donnelly’s postcard campaign to save BC’s wild salmon crosses the 1,000 signature mark, Chef Robert Clark is dishing up his support.

Executive Chef at Vancouver’s famous C restaurant and co-chair of the BC Steering Committee of the Canadian Chefs’ Congress, Clark is no stranger to sustainable leadership within the industry.

"What MP Donnelly is proposing with Bill- 518, is for me, the most logical step for the evolution of salmon farming in British Columbia," said Chef Clark. “The existence of wild pacific salmon in our rivers is, culturally, environmentally, and economically priceless, shouldn't ‘priceless’ be worth saving?"

Donnelly is collecting postcards in support of his Private Member’s Bill C-518, which calls on the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans to move west coast salmon farms to closed containment.

“I am thrilled that Chef Clark is lending his voice to this campaign. Vancouver is renowned for its fabulous west coast cuisine,” said Donnelly. “The restaurant industry is a key partner in building a sustainable fishery.”

Donnelly’s campaign to save BC’s wild salmon has been endorsed by several key Canadian figures including William Shatner, Alexandra Morton and Chief Bob Chamberlin.
