Captain Kirk joins NDP MDP's wild salmon fight

William Shatner has added his face and voice to a campaign against the “cling-ons” that are killing wild salmon.
The Star Trek star recorded a promotional video to support NDP MP Fin Donnelly’s bill to outlaw the open-net fish farms which aid the spread of sea lice.
Shatner is urging Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike to sign “save our wild salmon” postcards and send them to their MPs.
“There needs to be a movement to closed containment, whether it’s in-ocean or on-land,” said Donnelly (New Westminster-Coquitlam). “You could have a number of different communities welcoming aquaculture instead of resisting it if you went to closed containment.”
Donnelly said constituents told him they didn’t want the B.C. industry to collapse like the Newfoundland fishery did in 1993.
“We want to see our wild salmon continue, we don’t want them to go the way of Atlantic cod,” he said.
