Today in the House of Commons, Fin Donnelly, MP (New Westminster–Coquitlam & Port Moody) announced that Ms. Mackay’s kindergarten/grade one class from Baker Drive Elementary School in Coquitlam won this year’s Litterless Lunch Challenge. They went an astounding 100% litter-free for an entire week.

Each year, Donnelly challenges classes from schools across his riding to go litter-free during Waste Reduction Week (October 17-21).

NDP MP Fin Donnelly Reintroduces Private Member’s Bill

New Democrat MP Fin Donnelly (New Westminster-Coquitlam & Port Moody) is continuing his fight to strengthen medical Employment Insurance benefits for Canadians suffering from catastrophic illnesses such as cancer. Donnelly re-introduced his Private Member’s Bill in the House of Commons today which would extend medical EI benefits from 15 to 52 weeks.

“Canadians who are struck with catastrophic illnesses should be able to focus on recovery, and not have to worry about how they will survive financially,” said Donnelly.

New Democrat MP Fin Donnelly is renewing his effort to have medical Employment Insurance benefits extended for those suffering from serious illnesses like cancer.

Donnelly reintroduced a private member’s bill in the House of Commons today (November 15) that would increase the benefit period to 52 weeks from 15.

Two Years in Review

From rookie MP to Canada’s Official Opposition Fisheries and Oceans Critic, local New Democrat MP Fin Donnelly (New Westminster-Coquitlam & Port Moody) celebrates his second anniversary today.

Following his election on November 9th, 2009, Donnelly introduced the Wild Salmon Protection Act that would move open-net fish farms to safe closed containment and brought forward a Private Members Bill that would ban dangerous oil super tanker traffic off BCs north coast.

Fisheries and Oceans critic Fin Donnelly will soon be carrying the sentiments of Richmond residents opposed to plans for a jet fuel pipeline, and delivering them to Ottawa.

On Tuesday morning, the MP for New Westminster-Coquitlam-Port Moody received a 6,000-signature petition collected by members of V.A.P.O.R., Vancouver Airport Pipeline Opposition for Richmond.

A lethal virus that could pose a new threat to British Columbia's prized Pacific salmon has now been detected in four wild species, prompting fears about its effect on the multi-billion-dollar fishery.

On Wednesday, biologist and salmon advocate Alexandra Morton learned an infectious salmon amenia (ISA) lab at the Atlantic Veterinary College in P.E.I. found evidence of the virus in three of 10 dead fish — a Chinook, coho and chum — she pulled from the Harrison River on Oct. 12.

Bill will ban restrictive network locks, boost wireless competition & consumer choice

OTTAWA – Repressive cellular phone network locks need to end in order to give consumers real choice and to encourage competition in Canada’s wireless market, say New Democrats Bruce Hyer (Thunder Bay-Superior North) and Fin Donnelly (New Westminster-Coquitlam & Port Moody). The MPs re-introduced the Cell Phone Freedom Act on Thursday to ban “network locks” on new mobile phones sold outside of contract.

OTTAWA - The potential threat of an Infectious Salmon Anemia (ISA) outbreak in British Columbia requires immediate action from the Conservative government, according to NDP Fisheries and Oceans critic Fin Donnelly.

“I strongly urge the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans to fast-track the testing of BC salmon for ISA,” said Donnelly. “Concern is mounting both in British Columbia and the United States that the Department of Fisheries and Oceans is not taking this threat seriously.”
