Coquitlam - Total corporate tax cuts to the six big banks (BNS, RBC, BMO, CIBC, TD and National Bank) reached $1.4 billion earlier this fall; which happens to be the total cost of the Evergreen Line project.

While the federal government has given the 'Big Six' record tax cuts, the Translink Mayor’s Council is now considering asking individual tax payers to dig a little deeper into their pockets to fund the Evergreen Line’s $574 million shortfall by raising property and gas taxes.

Boldly going where science fails to dazzle

The Record June 30, 2010

Biologists, environmentalists and politicos of various stripes have been saying for years that open-net fish farming is causing problems on B.C.'s coast - and they can produce the science to back up their concerns.

So you wouldn't think Fin Donnelly would need to go elsewhere looking for endorsement of his efforts to change the fish farming system.

KYLE FARQUHARSON

New fish-farming legislation could save B.C.’s wild salmon stocks without devastating the province’s aquaculture industry, New Democrat MP Fin Donnelly said yesterday.

The new proposal calls for a transition to closed-containment salmon farms, which would protect salmon migration routes from sea lice, Donnelly said. He also initiated a “postcard campaign,” to pressure the federal government to pass the bill.
