OTTAWA – New Democrats are dismayed at the Conservatives’ refusal to reconsider their irresponsible decision to close one of Canada’s busiest coast guard stations, putting Canadians’ lives at risk.

MAPLE RIDGE - Last night NDP MP and Deputy West Coast Fisheries critic Fin Donnelly, held a well-attended town hall meeting in Maple Ridge about the Harper Conservatives attack on environmental protection.

“The Conservative government has made changes to long-standing legislation that will seriously weaken environmental protection without having a transparent and respectful discussion with Canadians,” said Donnelly. “I was asked to provide the people of Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows and Mission with a forum to discuss their concerns.”

OTTAWA – Today in Question Period, NDP MP and West Coast Fisheries critic, Fin Donnelly (New Westminster-Coquitlam and Port Moody) asked the Minister to commit to implementing the recommendations to protect wild salmon following the release of the Cohen Commission Report on the Decline of the Sockeye Salmon in the Fraser River.

“The Cohen Report is a scathing indictment of failed Conservative fisheries management policies,” said Donnelly. “From inaction on climate change to the gutting of the Fisheries Act and cuts to science, the report is clear: we must do better.”

OTTAWA – A Coquitlam school has come out on top by winning local MP Fin Donnelly’s third annual Litterless Lunch Challenge.

Ms. Sandra Allen and Ms. Leah Donnelly's grade 3/4 class from Riverview Park Elementary was the winning class, going 91% litter-free during Waste Reduction Week (October 15-19, 2012).

“The commitment from the students at Riverview Park Elementary is an inspiration,” said Donnelly. “The class worked hard to meet the challenge of going waste-free and should be very proud.”
