Northwest MPs give Enbridge a firm ‘NO’

The cross-province pipeline is too environmentally damaging, MP Nathan Cullen and Fin Donnelly said. Instead, greener alternatives should be sought.

NDP MPS have drawn a line in the sand by introducing a private member’s bill in Ottawa that if passed and if implemented would ban oil tankers from the north coast, effectively stopping any move by Enbridge to ship Alberta oil sands oil through its planned $4.5 billion Northern Gateway Pipeline.

Lawsuit in pipeline, Enbridge foes say
Judith Lavoie, Times Colonist

Massive opposition by First Nations to Enbridge's proposed pipeline from Alberta to Kitimat means a lawsuit is likely if the project proceeds, lawyers from West Coast Environmental Law warned yesterday.

An unprecedented alliance of more than 150 First Nations, environmental groups, unions and businesses significantly increases legal risks and uncertainty facing the Enbridge project, said Jessica Clogg, executive director of the group.

Fin Donnelly, the Member of Parliament for New Westminster–Coquitlam, wants people to remember his riding also includes a good chunk of Port Moody as well.

The neophyte NDP MP introduced his first Private Member's Bill on Thursday (March 11) with hopes of getting "Port Moody" tacked on to the end of his constituency's official name.

New Westminster-Coquitlam NDP MP Fin Donnelly represents people from Port Moody, too, and he wants his colleagues in the House of Commons to know it.

The rookie member of Parliament introduced his first private member’s bill in Ottawa on Thursday to add the missing municipality’s name to that of his riding. Changing the name to New Westminster-Coquitlam-Port Moody would highlight a distinct part of his constituency, he said.

Campbell's HST Illusion
The U of Calgary paper supposed to support the tax is full of holes and wishful thinking.
By: By David Schreck, 10 March 2010, TheTyee.ca

On July 1, 2009, France reduced its value added tax (VAT -- the equivalent of our GST or HST) on restaurant meals from 18.5 per cent to 5.5 per cent. They did that because they accepted the evidence that the tax on restaurant meals kills jobs; they expect 40,000 jobs to be created as a result of cutting the tax.

Why does Premier Campbell think that economics work differently in British Columbia?
